We skip a year as the BARCboys were in force in 1963 and we have a devoted page to just that year. In 1962 BARC racer Bob Poupard entered the Vineland 4 hour with Ted Rounds. Here is what The Rebel had to say; “That was an index of performance race. Ted and I drove. I put Frendo pads on the brakes because they were not as harsh on the discs as the Dunlop pads. That was a mistake as the pads wore out during the race and we had no brakes. I lost them just before going back onto the oval. There was an escape road there and I decided to take it. Then I noticed that someone was stopped on the road and I tried to made the turn and slid off the road and into a railroad tie set in the ground. I hit on the left door and put a big dent in it, bounced off and continued. We met our index in spite of no brakes.” In 1964 Big Jake, Bob Bucher returned to racing with a Lotus 23. As usual, Bucher won. What made it interesting were two BARC military men who came down from their post at Fort Dix. Those were the day.
