The great Jackie Stewart. Sir Jackie led but had brake problems and faded to 5th. Note the huge spectators at the fence. Today there are better areas and nobody stands there.

The fast right hand downhill leading to the toe of the boot. Stewart leads Cevert who is pressed hard by Denny Hulme with Clay Regazzoni’s Ferrari chasing.

Francois Cevert was Stewart’s protoge’. When Stewart had trouble he waved Cevert past and Francois won his first GP. Two years later Francois would be killed at the Glen.

Reine Wissel’s Lotus leads Andrea deAdamich’s March/Alfa and Howden Ganley’s McLaren.

The Glen was spectacular on the F1 weekend. The colors of the forest were superb and the crowds were huge.

Hulme leads Emmerson Fittipaldi and a March. Emmo would finish 2nd and Denny 3rd.

Mario Andretti’s Ferrari. Mario qualified 6th but the car failed and Mario never started.

The program had #31 as Mark Donohue, but Mark had to make a USAC race in Trenton and David Hobbs drove the McLaren in Penske colors to 10th.

The Matra of Chris Amon pretty much stripped down. Looking at the rivets holding the monocoque together you know Matra built airplanes.

Nanni Galli’s March leads J.P. Beltoise in his Matra. JP would have a good race finishing 8th.

Alf Francis and crew push Moss’ Lotus. Moss could have driven for anyone, but put his talents in the hands of Francis and the Rob Walker team. Rob Walker of the Johnny Walker scotch family.

Moss is out practicing in the V8 Lotus. He chose the trusty 4 cyl for the race, but that motor let him down while leading.

Jack Brabham in the V8 Cooper Climax. He and Moss would fight for the lead until the V8 started barfing water.

Peter Ryan sits in the 3rd factory Lotus. Ryan was born in the US but lived in Canada. His family started Mt. Tremblant. Ryan drove well finishing 9th.

The very famous Wiljie Wilkinson whose Jags won LeMans carried over to BRM with Graham Hill in later years.

Sitting far back on pit row is the Lotus 18 that was driven by Americna Indy Car star, Lloyd Ruby. Ruby would prove to be a superb road racer winning Sebring, the Daytona 24 twice and the ‘66 world sportscar championship.

The amazing Masten Gregory in red cap with a pipe in hand drove this UDT Lotus. Gregory ran in the top 10 for quite a while before dropping out with gearbox problems.

A rather dark image of the back end of the 4 cylinder 1.5 liter Coventry climax engine. In 1961 only Moss could push this older motor ahead of the vaunted V6 Ferrari’s.
